Traveling and leaving your home during the holidays is pretty common among many. However, the possibility of home burglary can be very scary for homeowners. Therefore, we have put together a few helpful home security tips that HOAs can send out to your community on how to secure your home during holidays.
How to Secure Your Home During Holidays
The following are just a few home security tips:
- Install timers. Setting timers for a few lamps and electronics, such as televisions and stereos, gives the appearance that your house is occupied. You can strategically place the timers on lamps that are visible from windows, and set the timers to go off when it gets dark outside.
- Prepare your home security system. Check any backups that your home security system has to determine if they need changing or charging. If your system is monitored, check with your security company’s instructions about what to do when you go out of town.
- Place a hold or forwarding order for mail. Additionally, ask a friend or neighbor to check your doors and porches for any unexpected deliveries, flyers or door hangers.
- Lock up before you leave. While it may sound obvious, it’s not unusual for people to forget to lock their doors and set their alarm systems when they are in a rush to leave town. Double check that all exterior doors, windows and gates are secure before you leave.
These are just a few home security tips on how to secure your home during holidays.
